Visakhapatnam: Following the orders of ASR district collector, Ananthagiri mandal educational officer (MEO) K. Balaji and teachers A. Padalu and M.R.P. Nageswara Rao visited the Tengilabandha village.
Their visit following a report in Deccan Chronicle on June 27 headlined “Overflowing stream disrupts tribal kids schooling in Vizag”. 25 students of the village studying in classes from I to V could not attend their MPP Elementary School in Gangavaram, two-and-a-half kilometres away because of an overflowing stream, which posed a safety risk.
Their parents had told DC that there are two teachers in the Gangavaram MPP School. One of these teachers could come to Tengilabandha village and take classes when the stream is overflowing due to heavy rains, so that their children do not miss their classes.
Following their visit to Tengilabandha village, MEO Balaji said: “A proposal for establishing an alternate school in Tengilabandha will be submitted to the district collector. In the interim, one teacher from Gangavaram MPP school will conduct classes in the village.”
