Suriya’s latest film, ‘Kanguva’, released in theatres on November 14, 2024, has experienced a significant drop in box office collections on its second day. The fantasy action thriller, which also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Pataniopened to mixed reviews, with fans praising Suriya’s performance but criticizing the film’s weak storyline.

As per the trade analyst Sacnilk, on its opening day, ‘Kanguva’ earned an impressive Rs 24 crore across all languages in India. However, on Day 2, the film’s earnings fell sharply to approximately Rs 9 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to around Rs 33 crore.
Additionally, it was reported that the film collected Rs 58.60 crore gross worldwide on its opening day.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of 18.57% in Tamil Nadu on its second day, with varying attendance throughout the day: morning shows saw 13.45%, afternoon shows at 18.82%, evening shows at 16.54%, and night shows peaked at 25.46%. In comparison, Hindi occupancy was lower at 11.03%, while Telugu occupancy stood at 26.61%.
Despite the initial hype around its release, ‘Kanguva’ faced challenges due to negative word-of-mouth reviews, which likely contributed to the drop in audience turnout. Fans on social media pointed out issues with the film’s loud sound mix and screenplay.
Directed by Siva, ‘Kanguva’ features Suriya in dual roles, as a tribal warrior named Kanguva and a bounty hunter named Francis.
