Georgia football has packed up bags and hit the road from Athens to six different states in its first nine games.
Finally, the Bulldogs are back between the hedges Saturday night for the first time in five weeks for a game that it probably can’t afford to lose if it wants to make the College Football Playoff.
It’s the CFP No. 12 Bulldogs vs. No. 7 Tennessee.
Call it a top-10 matchup in the eyes of the coaches poll with No. 10 UGA vs. the No. 4 Vols.
Georgia (7-2, 5-2 SEC) has taken two losses on the road, but it brings a nation’s best, 28-game, home winning streak into this one against Tennessee (8-1, 5-1 SEC).
“I just think a home game in general in the SEC is hell on the road team,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “I think it’s really hard, man. It’s hard. I tell people all the time. I told our offensive line that it’s harder in the SEC to play on the road at offensive line, tackle and some of those positions that are timing positions and snap count positions than it is in the NFL until the playoffs.”
11:08 p.m. Georgia adds padding to lead with Nate Fraizer touchdown
Nate Fraizer added some comfort to the scoreboard for the Bulldogs with a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. The 12-play, 92-yard drive lasted 6 minutes, 21 seconds. This is their longest scoring drive this season. Georgia leads 31-17 with 2:26 to go in the game.

Georgia’s 12-play, 87-yard scoring drive broke the tie between the Bulldogs and Volunteers. Carson Beck, wide open, scrambled 10 yards into the end zone to make it 24-17 with 5:32 to go in the third quarter.
9:18 p.m Georgia football field goal ties Tennessee before the half
Georgia went 57 yards on 12 plays but had to settle for a 36-yard Peyton Woodring field goal with 5 seconds to go in the half. Georgia and Tennessee are tied at 17 at the half.
9:18 p.m. Tennessee goes back on top on Dylan Sampson TD
Tennessee has retaken the lead 17-14 on a 27-yard touchdown up the middle from Dylan Sampson. There’s 1:54 to go in the first half.
9:01 p.m. Oscar Delp finds the end zone again
Georgia pulled ahead of Tennessee for the first time all game on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Oscar Delp. The score capped a 10-play, 84-yard drive that lasted almost five minutes. Georgia now leads 14-10 with 6:36 to go in the second quarter.
8:39 p.m. Georgia gets touchdown to Oscar Delp
Georgia needed something good to happen on offense and it just did. Carson Beck finds tight end Oscar Delp in the back of the end zone for 19 yards and Georgia trails now 10-7 with 13:30 to go in the second quarter.
8:29 p.m. Vols extend lead with field goal
Tennessee boots a 52-yard field goal to extend its lead to 10-0 with 43 seconds to go in the opening quarter. A 26-yard punt return set the Vols up for good field position and Max Gilbert booted the field goal try.
8:01 p.m. Tennessee jumps on top with early touchdown
Tennessee with an impressive opening drive of 12 plays and 78 yards that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Miles Kitselman. Vols lead 7-0 with 10:09 to go in the first quarter.
Kirby Smart said on the pregame radio show that inside linebacker CJ Allen “didn’t practice all week,” with an injury he didn’t detail. Allen was still with the starters with Raylen Wilson earlier and he looked like he was moving fine.
Smart said that inside linebacker Smael Mondon, who returned last week from injury, is having “a tough time getting back going.”
The running back order pregame: Nate Frazier, Cash Jones, Chauncey Bowens and Dwight Phillips
Looks like Georgia may have a change on its offensive line.
Monroe Freeling is lining up as the starting left tackle with Bo Hughley with the second team.
Earnest Greene, who is battling a shoulder injury, is dressed out but not warming up now. He was working second team earlier.
Micah Morris, who has a leg injury, is working with the second team behind Tate Ratledge at right guard.
6:58 p.m. Georgia football returner Anthony Evans is warming up
Good news for Georgia with Anthony Evans warming up on punt returns now. He’s still listed as questionable with a hamstring injury after missing the last two games, but looks like he is in line to play.
As expected, running back Cash Jones is on the field catching passes in the end zone. Kirby Smart has said he will play. He’s still listed as questionable in the final SEC availability report released 90 minutes before kickoff with an apparent foot injury. Here’s our story on what the running back situation is tonight without Trevor Etienne.
6:14 p.m. Kirby Smart wants Georgia fans to bring the noise
Georgia coach Kirby Smart voiced his displeasure with the home fans energy level after the Auburn win last month. He was asked on his radio show Thursday night about what he wanted from the fans this time.
“Loud, loud, loud, more loud,” he said. “If you’re frustrated and your mad, get loud. That’s what you need to do. You need to get really loud, especially when they have the ball. When they go really fast and you want to go get a hot dog and a Coke, you may miss 20 plays. …The minute they snap the ball, they go to snap it again, we need to be loud every time.”
The students are all in on blacking out Sanford Stadium. The lower level student sections are filling up now with students wearing black. Some Georgia football players and staffers posted on social media for fans to wear black.
5:22 p.m. NFL scouts eyeing top Georgia and Tennessee prospects
Ten NFL teams are credentialed for tonight’s game. Scouts are expected from the Colts, Browns, Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Saints, Eagles, Seahawks, Titans and Bears. Vols defensive end James Pearce is seen as a first-round prospect as is Georgia defensive end Mykel Williams, linebacker Jalon Walker and safety Malaki Starks.
Senior offensive guard Tate Ratledge is expected to play while battling through his ankle injury. He is a game captain along with senior wideout Dominic Lovett, sophomore inside linebacker CJ Allen and senior outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss.
The referee for tonight’s game is David Smith. He worked the Georgia game against UAB in 2023.

Georgia vs Tennessee prediction
Georgia 24, Tennessee 21
Georgia is a banged-up team on offense, but with the stakes so high in this one, look for players to dig down and try to tough it out. The Bulldogs will need to sustain drives and limit turnovers against a Tennessee defense that doesn’t give up many big plays. Look for Georgia to dial up pressure.
