28 years later, concerts return to Camp Randall with Morgan Wallen headlining | Things To Do

MADISON (WKOW) − For the first time in 28 years, live music returned to Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday, with country music artist Morgan Wallen headlining the event. Thousands of fans attended the concert, drawing large crowds both inside the stadium and throughout downtown Madison. The event marked a notable shift for the venue, primarily known for college football, and signaled a renewed interest in bringing large-scale music events back to the historic stadium.

Hours before the gates opened, downtown Madison took on a festival-like atmosphere. Regent Street was filled with activity as bars reached capacity, DJs played music from patios, and crowds gathered throughout the area. Parking became scarce, with some spots going for as much as $100. Even fast food chains like Jimmy John’s saw extended lines, reflecting the high turnout and energy surrounding the event.

Across the street, a group of entrepreneurial kids set up a lemonade and beef stick stand, joining in on the day’s activity. “I might save it… maybe for college,” one of them said, smiling.

For many local residents, the return of concerts to Camp Randall represented more than just live music — it was a reminder of the community spirit and shared experiences that large events bring to Madison.

“It feels like game day,” one attendee shared. “There’s this energy, but also a sense of connection. We need more of this… people coming together.”

And for others, the event was there first time seeing Madison. “It’s super cute here,” said one visitor. “Everyone’s so happy and excited. I’m actually coming back for Coldplay which I’m excited about.”

With Coldplay scheduled to perform next month, Camp Randall Stadium is set to reestablish itself as Madison’s leading summertime music venue.
