Sales of SUVs continue to act as a buffer against the decline in passenger car and sedan sales in the first quarter of FY2026. However, even in the top 10 list, there are more than a few that have seen their sales decline in the April-June 2025 period. Here’s a quick look at the bestselling SUVs list:

1. Hyundai Creta
47,662 units, up 3 percent
The Hyundai Cretawhich is India’s bestselling midsize SUV for long, tops the chart in Q1 FY2026 with sales of 47,662 units. This is a three percent increase over the same period last year and translates into an additional 1,260 units sold (Q1 FY2025: 46,402 units), enough to help it stay ahead of the Maruti Brezza. While it was predicted that the Creta Electric’s sales would further accelerate the model’s sales, that has not been the case. Nevertheless, in Q1 FY2026, the Creta has topped the monthly charts both in April 2025 (17,016 units) and in June 2025 (15,786 units).
2. Maruti Brezza
47,044 units, up 6 percent
The Maruti breeze compact SUV – launched in March 2016 and clocking cumulative sales of 12.9 lakh units since then – continues to win over buyers. In Q1 FY2026, the Brezza has clocked wholesales of 47,044 units, up six percent YoY (Q1 FY2025: 44,471 units) and is currently India’s bestselling compact SUV. April 2025’s 16,971 units has been its highest monthly tally in the first quarter.
3. Mahindra Scorpio N and Classic
42,675 units, up 5 percent
The Scorpio – the popular Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic – continues to be Mahindra’s bestselling SUV. The 42,675 units sold between April and June 2025 were a five percent YoY increase (Q1 FY2025: 40,831 units) and account for a 28 percent share of Mahindra’s 1,52,067 SUVs sold in the first three months of FY2026.
4. Tata Nexon
40,155 units, up 16 percent
The Tata Nexon compact SUV has taken the lead over its sibling, the Punch, in Q1 FY2026. With three-month sales of 40,155 units, Nexon despatches are up 16 percent YoY (Q1 FY2026: 40,831 units) and have contributed 32 percent to its total passenger vehicle wholesales of 1,23,839 units. Ranked fourth on the overall SUV scale, the Tata Nexon – sold with petrol, diesel, CNG and electric powertrains – is currently the second-bestselling compact SUV.
5. Maruti Fronx
37,744 units, up 3 percent
The Maruti Fronxwhich was India’s fifth bestselling SUV in FY2025 (1,66,216 units) and the No. 1 exported SUV last fiscal, has clocked wholesales of 37,744 units in the April-June 2025 quarter, up three percent YoY. At the end of FY2025, the Baleno-based compact SUV became the first Nexa-marketed SUV to achieve the 3 lakh sales milestone.
6. Tata Punch
36,075 units, down 36 percent
The Tata PunchIndia’s bestselling SUV in FY2025 (1,96,567 units), has witnessed a surprisingly poor start to FY2026. Cumulative three-month sales, at 36,075 units, are down 36 percent YoY (Q1 FY2025: 56,345 units). The estimated 10,446 units sold in June 2025 are the lowest monthly sales for the Punch since July 2023 (12,019 units). The Punch is available with petrol, CNG and electric powertrains.
7. Mahindra Bolero
24,257 units, down 3 percent
The Mahindra bolero brand, comprising the Bolero, NEO BOLERO and Bolero Neo Plus, has clocked wholesales of 24,257 units in Q1 FY2026, down three percent YoY (Q1 FY2025: 24,928 units). The Bolero is sold only with a diesel powertrain.
8. Mahindra Thar
23,339 units, up 35 percent
The Mahindra Thar brand, which comprises the three-door Thar and the five-door Thar sprayhas registered wholesales of 23,339 units in Q1 FY2026. This constitutes an additional 6,053 units and marks a strong YoY increase of 35 percent (Q1 FY2025: 17,286 units). At the end of April 2025, the Mahindra Thar drove past the 2.5 lakh sales milestone, powered by the success of the Thar Roxx, which, as a more practical and more mainstream product than the 3-door model, has helped widen this SUV’s target audience. In FY2025, the Thar clocked 83,834 units; a 30 percent growth. Q1 FY2026 sales are already 28 percent of that total.
9. Let Sonet
22,780 units, down 9 percent
The Sonet, be India’s first compact SUV and its bestselling UV since January 2024, sold 22,780 units in April-June period, down 9 percent YoY (Q1 FY2025: 25,150 units) and accounts for 34 percent of the company’s sales in the first three months of the current fiscal. This is 23 percent of its FY2025 sales of 99,805 units, when the Sonet had clocked 23 percent YoY growth.
10. Mahindra XUV 3XO
22,609 units
The Mahindra XUV 3XOessentially the XUV300 facelift, has been one of the best performers in the SUV market. In Q1 FY2026, the XUV 3XO has sold 22,609 units, which gives it a 15 percent share of Mahindra’s total SUV sales of 1,52,067 units. The compact SUV opened the fiscal with 7,568 units to register robust 89 percent growth (April 2024: 4,003 units). The 3XO has maintained the same growth trajectory in May and June. In FY2025, this model had sold 1,00,905 units and accounted for 18 percent of Mahindra’s record 5,51,487 units. In fact, it was Mahindra’s second bestselling SUV in FY2025 after the Scorpio twins.
