The KIA KEY EV has finally gone on sale as the Korean carmaker’s first locally manufactured mass-market EV for the Indian market. Moreover, the Carens Clavis EV is one of only a handful of all-electric MPVs in India – the others being the EMAX WORLD 7 and the upcoming MG M9. With every detail surrounding the Carens Clavis EV now out, let’s take a look at the MPV’s pricing, powertrains, colour options and variant-wise feature spread.
Kia Kiyan key EV Price and Powersrains
Starting price is Rs 17.99 lakh.

Prices for the Carno key EV start at Rs 17.99 lakh and top off at Rs 24.49 lakh. This pricing undercuts that of the Carens Clavis EV’s direct rival, the eMax 7, which costs between Rs 26.90 lakh and Rs 29.90 lakh. The Carens Clavis EV is also the most affordable three-row EV currently on sale in India.

The Carens Clavis EV features the same powertrain options as the Hyundai Creta Electric. A 42kWh battery with an ARAI-claimed range of 404km, with a single front-mounted motor setup serves as the base powertrain; develops 135hp and 255Nm. There’s a larger 51.4kWh battery on offer too, which ups the power output to 171hp and range to 490km.
For the 51.4kWh variants of the Carens Clavis EV, Whenever claims a 0-100kph time of 8.4 seconds. Additionally, all Carens Clavis EV variants get four levels of regenerative braking via paddle shifters. As for charging, the Carens Clavis EV can be juiced up via 7.4kW and 11kW AC chargers, and 100kW DC fast chargers. The 11kW AC charger is claimed to provide a 10-100 percent charge in 4 hours for the 42kWh battery and 4.75 hours for the bigger unit. Meanwhile, 100kW DC fast charging takes just 39 mins for a 10-80 percent charge for both batteries.

Three Carens Clavis EV trim levels are available: HTK+, HTX, and HTX+. The HTK+ gets only the 42kWh battery as standard, while the HTX can be had with both battery options. The top-spec HTX+ trim is available solely with the 51.4kWh battery pack.

The Carens Clavis EV is available in six colour options: Aurora Black Pearl, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Imperial Blue, Ivory Silver Matte and Pewter Olive. Entry-level trims of the Carens Clavis EV get gloss black 16-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels, with the 51.4kWh variants sporting dual-tone 17 inchers instead.
Inside, Kia equips the Carens Clavis EV with black and beige upholstery that’s a mix of fabric and leatherette in the HTK+ trim, while the HTX and HTX+ trims feature navy blue and beige leatherette upholstery.

With all the information laid out above, it’s clear that the Carens Clavis EV is very well equipped right from the base trim. For those who drive primarily within the city, the HTX 42kWh variant is a compelling value proposition thanks to the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, and more, for just Rs 2.5 lakh more than the HTK+ trim. However, Carens Clavis EV buyers who want ventilated front seats and electrical adjustment for the driver’s seat have no option but the top-spec HTX+ trim to turn to.
