Chennai: Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil, on an indefinite hunger strike since August 29 demanding education funds for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal, released a video on Monday stressing that “stopping funds for children is a crime.”
“This is the 4th day of my fast demanding the rightful funds for education… doctors are worried and want me to stop, but I have taken up a very important issue,” Senthil said in the video message. He warned that withholding funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme would permanently push children out of school.
The 46-year-old MP developed health issues later that night and was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. However, he asserted on Sunday that he would continue his protest from the hospital until the Centre releases the pending SSA funds.
