Higher-spec variants of the Kiger, Magnite and C3 fall under the Rs 10 lakh budget.
My son is turning 19, and I want to surprise him with his first car. I’ve kept a budget of around Rs 10 lakh, and I’m looking for an automatic SUV that’s safe and dependable, but also has that ‘cool factor’ he would appreciate. Any suggestions?

Autocar India says: We’d recommend you to shortlist the Nissan Magnite N-Connecta 1.0 Turbo CVT and Renault Kiger Techno Turbo CVTboth of which are priced under Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom. Not only do they get standard safety kit like 6 airbags, ESP and hill-start assist, but these have been awarded respectable scores for their crash worthiness by Global NCAP. Further, their turbo-petrol and automatic combination is the smoothest and nicest to drive in their price category. Also, both cars have been updated recently with fresher aesthetics and new features, and in our eyes at least, these have the ‘cool factor’ a teenager would appreciate. Another fun-to-drive option in that price category is the Citroen C3 Shine Turbo ATavailable at a similar budget. If you have a Citroen touchpoint near you, it is certainly worth a serious consideration.
