What is the Trophy Edition all about?

The Trophy Edition, or the ‘Camel Trophy’, is an off-road vehicle-oriented competition that began in 1980, held annually until 2000. The event took its name from the Camel cigarette brand as its main sponsor and was also known as ‘The Olympics of 4×4’.
In 1980, the competition took place with three German teams exploring the Amazon Basin through Jeep SUVs. But thereafter, Land Rover became the brand of choice for the organisers to provide support cars for future events.
The entire Land Rover range, comprising the Range Rover, Land Rover Series III, Land Rover 90, Land Rover 110, Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery, and Freelander, were used in the competition with the unique ‘Sandglow’ colour scheme, which the Defender Trophy Edition takes inspiration from.
