The latest iteration of the Skoda Octavia RS has just been launched in India. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo platform, it is the spiritual successor to the much-acclaimed Mk1 Octavia vRS of the early 2000s and the next step up from the previous-generation Octavia RS. Considering the low volumes earmarked for India, the Octavia RS continues to be fully imported.

This capable powertrain is essentially the same one that is found in the much more compact and lighter Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatchback.

In terms of its acceleration, Skoda claims a 0-100kph time of 6.4 seconds for the Octavia RS. During our time testing it, the Volkswagen Golf GTI managed the same feat in a brisk 5.9 seconds.
