Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s 75th movie ‘to Annapooran’ faced backlash due to religious controversies, leading to its removal from the OTT platform. Following the uproar, the makers of ‘Annapoorani’ issued a public apology. Nayanthara and other team members faced a police case in some North Indian states. The actress has now addressed the controversy with a detailed note and issued an apology for unintentionally hurting religious sentiments.
While sharing the apology note on her Twitter handle, Nayanthara wrote, “Spread Positivity 👍 God Bless😇.”
The lengthy note reads, “I am writing this note with a heavy heart and a genuine desire to address the recent turn of events concerning our film, ‘Annapoorni.’ Crafting ‘Annapoorni’ was not just a cinematic endeavor but a heartfelt pursuit of inspiring resilience and instilling the spirit of never giving up. It aimed to mirror life’s journey, where we learn that obstacles can be overcome with sheer will power.”
The actress believes the plot was never a targeted attack on someone but a clear vision of narrating the story of resilience in many lives.

She continued, “In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments, and we understand the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholly believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do. To those whose feelings we’ve touched, I extend my sincere & heartfelt apologies. The intention behind ‘Annapoorni’ was to uplift and inspire, not to cause distress. Over the last two decades, my journey in the film industry has been guided with a singular intention – To spread positivity & foster learning from one another. With sincere regards, Nayanthara.”

The actress apologized for the trouble they caused. She said that she never intended to harm anyone in her two-decades-long cinematic journey, and the profession means a platform to spread positivity and learning, not harm.

Nayanthara’s film ‘Annapoorani,’ released on December 1, 2023, delves into the life of a Hindu Brahmin woman pursuing a career as a chef, supported by her Muslim friend. The narrative explores themes of religious tolerance as the woman is allowed to cook meat, with the choice of consuming it left to her discretion. However, the film has faced backlash as activists from two right-wing groups filed separate complaints against Nayanthara and others associated with the movie. The complaints allege that certain scenes in ‘Annapoorani’ hurt religious sentiments, making controversial remarks about Lord Ram and purportedly promoting ‘love jihad.’ In response to the controversy and religious clashes sparked by the film, the movie team issued a public apology and removed it from the OTT platform.
