– 11 dead in record-breaking torrential rains in Beijing

A 140-year-old record has been broken due to heavy rains in China. This new record has been set due to heavy rains in the last few days. Due to heavy rains, people’s life has become chaotic. Cars on the road are drifting like toys in rain water. According to an estimate, due to the heavy rains in China, around 10 lakh people have resorted to relief camps to save their lives. According to the Beijing Meteorological Service, Wangjiyuan in Changping received the highest rainfall of 744.8 mm during Cyclone Doxuri, making it the heaviest in 140 years.
Typhoon Doxuri made landfall in China’s southern Fujian province last week after hitting the Philippines before moving north. Due to the impact of the storm, heavy rains started in the capital and surrounding areas on Saturday. Beijing has had only 40 hours of rainfall above the average for the month of July. 11 people have died in record-breaking torrential rains in Beijing.
13 people are still missing in this natural calamity. Another 14 people have been rescued safely. More than 800,000 people have reportedly been evacuated from Hebei province, adjacent to the capital. Nine people have died and six people are missing due to heavy rains. President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for maximum efforts to rescue people trapped by heavy rains.
The Beijing Meteorological Bureau said on Wednesday that the last time the city experienced such severe flooding was in 1891 when the city received 609 millimeters (24 inches) of rain.
