So is the Exoprimal Deluxe Edition worth buying?
Well, like the Shake Weight vibrating dumbbell, the answer depends. And like the aforementioned Shake Weight, it’s important to go hands on with this stuff, which is exactly what we’re going to do in this guide as I’ve gotten my grubby mitts on the Deluxe Edition.
Now let’s get shaking.
What do you get with the Exoprimal Deluxe Edition?
The $69.99 Exoprimal Deluxe Edition comes with several extras that you don’t get with the standard $59.99 edition of the game.
These include the Head Start Kit DLC as well as access to the Premium Tier rewards of the Season 1 Limited Time Bonus Survival Pass.
Let’s break down what comes with both of these.
What do you get with the Exoprimal Head Start Kit?
Exoprimal’s Head Start Kit basically allows you to access several exosuit skins right off the bat without having to grind and raise your player level to unlock them. Here are the three exosuits that you can unlock with the Head Start Kit.
Nimbus: This support exosuit specializes in healing your allies by switching between its regular pistols to healing guns. You can then use the healing guns to shoot your allies and heal them. It’s also pretty mobile thanks to its nice speed as well as its ability to warp to specific spots on the map by sending a clone out and then teleporting to its location. It’s a good suit for folks who want to switch between dealing damage and healing. By the way, you can acquire the Nimbus exosuit for free without the Head Start Kit by reaching Player Level 20 and paying 5,000 Bik Coins.
Murasame: This exosuit specializes in close-range sword combat and tanking. I mean, check out that sword. That thing is huge. Unlike overcompensating guys who drive big trucks, however, Murasame actually looks cool. The Murasame excels at using its sword to block and counter attacks. It can also use a grappling hook to close the gap between enemies and either do an extra jump or slam down on the ground with a powerful sword attack. You can acquire the Nimbus exosuit for free without the Head Start Kit by reaching Player Level 30 and paying Bik Coins.
Vigilant: This exosuit specializes in sniping. Its main shot can actually pierce through enemies, allowing you to hit multiple foes at the same time. You can also power up its normal shots by using its Overdrive skill. For crowd control, the Vigilant can use an ice shot that freezes enemy groups. It can also do a double jump. This is the exosuit to use if pulling off head shots makes you squeal like a little girl. You can acquire the Vigilant exosuit for free without the Head Start Kit by reaching Player Level 40 and paying Bik Coins.
Because you can still get these three exosuits just by playing the game normally, the Head Start Kit doesn’t exactly sound like a must-have for folks who don’t mind the grind for unlocking the exosuits. To sweeten the pot a little bit, Exoprimal is added three exosuit skins to the Head Start Kit.
Here are the exosuit skins that are included in the Exoprimal Head Start Kit.
- Wonderland: This is a skin for the Nimbus exosuit. It switches the Nimbus’ default pink color to turquoise blue. This skin would likely make John Mayer sing and use his hands.
- White Guardian: White is the new red for the White Guardian skin, which changes the default color of the Murasame exosuit. Now you can overcompensate with your large sword with even more style.
- Paladin: This is a skin for the Vigilant exosuit. It changes the exosuit’s default black and silver color to black and gold. Goldfinger would definitely approve.
What’s in the Limited Time Bonus Survival Pass Season 1: Premium Tier?
The other DLC that’s included in the Exoprimal Deluxe Edition is the Limited Time Bonus Survival Pass Season 1: Premium Tier.
This DLC adds 49 unlockable rewards that you can acquire from Player Level 2 to Player Level 50. The rewards are broken down into the following item types:
- Exosuit Skins: 19
- Weapon Skins: 10
- Decals: 3
- Emotes: 4
- Stamps : 2
- Player Tag: Emblems: 10
- Player Tag: Backgrounds: 1
You can see every unlockable Player Level reward by checking out the embedded YouTube video in the article.
So is the Exoprimal Deluxe Edition worth the price? Here’s a cost breakdown
Basically, it all boils down to getting the Head Start Kit DLC and the Season 1 Premium Tier DLC unlocks for $10. When purchased separately, the Head Start Kit DLC costs $14.99 while the Exoprimal Survival Pass Season 1: Premium Tier costs $9.99. This means you’re getting $25 worth of extra content for just $10.
Then again, there’s also the question of whether that’s a fair price for monetized content from a game that is not free to play. Given that you’re already paying $59.99 for Exoprimal, which doesn’t really have a traditional PVE campaign and is mostly competitive online multiplayer, a case can be made that the Season 1 Player Level unlocks should have come with the base game.
Ultimately, getting the Exoprimal Deluxe Edition depends on just how much you enjoy the game and whether all those skins, emotes and stamps are worth it to you.
If you are a player who doesn’t care about cosmetics and are content with just the base experience, then you can skip the Deluxe Edition and just work your way to unlocking the three extra exosuits without the added frills.
If you’re the type of player who loves cosmetics and likes to spam unique emotes on the field, then paying $10 for all of that stuff via the Deluxe Edition is better than spending $25 to get the Head Start and Premium Season 1 Pass DLC separately.
