Yesteryear Marathi actor-director Ravindra Mahajani was found dead inside a rented apartment at the Xrbia Society in Pune’s Talegaon Dabhade on Friday.
According to the police, Mahajani, a resident of Mumbai, was staying alone there for about eight months.
The neighbours contacted the police on Friday around 4.30 pm after they found a foul smell emanating from the apartment.
Soon, a team from Talegaon MIDC police station reached the spot and found the apartment locked from inside. In presence of the local residents, the cops broke open the door, entered the house and found Mahajani’s body inside.
The police said the owner of the apartment identified the deceased person as Mahajani.
They suspect that the actor had passed away about two to three days before the recovery of his body.
The police informed the late actor’s family and sent his mortal remains to a hospital for postmortem to confirm the cause of death.
Mahajani was known for films such as Mumbaicha Fauzdar (1984) and Kalat Nakalat (1990). He had a significant presence in the Marathi film industry for several decades starting in mid-1970s.
He even acted in some of the recent films, including the Hindi period drama, Panipat (2019).
His son Gashmir Mahajani is also an actor.
