Suryakumar is now one of the two Indian batsmen to score more than 1000 runs in a year thrice. He was at the second spot with Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Suresh Raina before the fifth T20I.
Kohli emerged as one of the best batsmen in T20 cricket in 2016 and breached the elusive mark for the first time that year. He scored more than 1000 runs in 2022 well.
Shreyas Iyer (2019 and 2022) and Suresh Raina (2010 and 2018) are two other Indian batters who have scored more than 1000 runs in a year.
Suryakuamr will now return home as he has been rested for the series against Ireland. The middle-order batsman is not a confirmed selection in the ODI squad for Asia Cup. His chances highly depend on Shreyas Iyer’s fitness. If Iyer’s fit, then Suryakumar might not be named in the squad for Asia Cup and World Cup.
Since he hasn’t been included in the squad for Asian Games, Suryakumar will stay away from international cricket if he does not make the cut in the WC squad.
