Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 has had one of the best dream runs any film could have expected at the box office, and even a month after its release, fans still can’t get enough of the film. However, now in its fifth week, the film is facing fierce competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan which is all set to write box office history.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 75 lakh on Monday, bringing its total collection to Rs 514.60 crore.On Monday, the film achieved an overall 12.60 per cent occupancy in Hindi-speaking regions.
Gadar 2 was anyway facing competition since its release, first from OMG 2, then Dream Girl 2, but it has got most affected by the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. On the opening day, Jawan made a massive Rs 75 crore opening in all-India nett collections, and Gadar 2 witnessed a drop of Rs 1 crore from the previous day’s earnings. During the weekend, the film generated a little less than 4 crore (Rs 1 crore on Friday, with Rs 1.35 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.60 crore on Sunday)
Subsequently, the film’s earnings further decreased to Rs 75 lakh on Monday.
With the release of Jawan, Gadar 2 also slipped a rank in terms of biggest opening day collection for 2023, with Jawan leading the pack with Rs 75 crore , followed by Pathaan at Rs 57 crore, while Gadar 2 had collected 40 crore.
In a conversation with Indian Express, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma spoke on Jawan impacting his film’s box office collection. He said, “Both the films will work. The public will enjoy both the movies equally. Even when I had seen Pathaan… See, I am a Shah Rukh Khan fan… When the trailer of the film had released bohot buraai huiee. When I had seen Pathaan’s trailer, I had said that the film is a superhit. People had said, ‘Bohot kharaab trailer hai.’ I loved Pathaan’s trailer and then enjoyed the movie even more, and now I have loved Jawan trailers as well and I am now looking forward to catching the film as well. I don’t know what the industry will say about the film, but it is going to be such a mass entertainer. The music, dance and dialogue baazi especially is looking good, very likable. I am an SRK fan, and I am going to watch the movie. Badi acchhi lag rahi hai film (the film is looking very good). I’ll watch it on the first day itself.”
