Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez makes no effort to hide that he hopes to agree a contract extension with the Nerazzurri.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, Martinez also reacted to the team’s Champions League win over Benfica.
As things stand, Martinez’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2026.
The former Racing Club striker signed his current deal during the fall of 2021.
There may not be any panic to extend Martinez’s deal. But by all accounts, Inter want to do so sooner rather than later.
The Argentine has become a hugely important player for the Nerazzurri in his five seasons and counting at the club. This season he has begun wearing the captain’s armband.
Martinez has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons.
And considering that the striker has already found the back of the net ten times this season, it seems likely that he will do so again.
There has also been persistent transfer interest in Martinez. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.
Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.

Regarding a prospective contract extension, Martinez said “Hopefully soon.”
He noted that “My agent is working with the club.”
“I’m very happy here, I give my all for Inter,” Martinez said.
“I’m happy and so are my family. There’s no reason for me to want a change.”
Of the win over Benfica this evening, Martinez said that “For us this was a very important match.”
“Against Real Sociedad we struggled to play our game. So we had to turn the page, we’re happy to have won and it’s important to have done so.”
And regarding his missed chances against the Portuguese side, Martinez admitted that “I’ve never had a match like this before in my career.”
“There are still things that I have to work on and improve,” he added.
“[Saturday’s 4-0 win over Salernitana] is in the past, and we have to keep thinking ahead and keep going,” the Inter captain made clear.
