Chennai: ‘Six districts including Coimbatore and Kanyakumari will experience heavy rain today’, the Chennai Meteorological Department said. An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for these districts. Balachandran, head of the Indian Meteorological Center’s southern region, gave an interview yesterday:

In southern states including Tamil Nadu, northeast monsoon rains have fallen widely. Between Oct. 1 and yesterday, an average of 19 cm of rain should fall. However, only 12 cm has rained, 40 percent less.

As of yesterday morning, Chidambaram received the highest rainfall of 8 cm in 24 hours. Over the Southwest and adjoining Central West Bengal Sea, an atmospheric mantle circulation prevails.

Due to this, moderate rainfall will occur in many districts. The Chennai Meteorological Department has informed that some coastal districts, including Chennai, will experience sudden rains from time to time.

Heavy rain will occur in more than 10 districts till 6th. Orange alert has been issued for some districts as more than 12 cm of heavy rain will fall. This is what he said.
