According to PTI, the FIR was filed under sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 469 (forgery to harm reputation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 66C and 66E of the Information Technology Act, at the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.
The police stated they’ve organized teams and initiated an investigation. Earlier that day, the Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to the city police concerning the video, requesting action against the accused.

Following the video doing the rounds on the internet, the Indian government reportedly issued a stern reminder to social media platforms, highlighting the legal provisions governing such deepfakes and the associated penalties. According to reports, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has invoked Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which pertains to ‘punishment for cheating by personation by using a computer resource’. Hence, anyone found guilty of the offense may face imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees.

The actress expressed her concerns about such altered videos in a statement posted on her social media accounts following the incident. She garnered support from several celebrities, including Amitabh BachchanMrunal Thakur, Naga Chaitanyaand Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology of India.
