A total of four charges were charged against Marlon Samuels in September 2021 for violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s anti-corruption code. The officials of ICC’s anti-corruption department, who investigated these, found Samuels guilty in August 2023. In this context, the ICC has announced that Samuels will be banned from all kinds of cricket affairs for six years. It has been clarified that this ban will come into effect from November 11. Alex Marshall of the ICC HR and Integrity Unit disclosed this decision on Thursday.
“Samuels has played international cricket for nearly two decades, during which he has participated in several anti-corruption sessions. He knows exactly what his responsibilities are under the anti-corruption codes. Although he is now retired from cricket, he was still participating in cricket at the time of the offence. Those who intend to violate the rules face six years. The ban is a strong warning,” ICC officials said.
Samuels played more than 300 matches for the West Indies in his 18-year career. He registered 17 centuries. He also led West Indies in ODIs. West Indies won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. Samuelse also became the top scorer in the final matches. Samuels played 71 Tests, 207 ODIs and 67 T20 matches for West Indies and scored 11134 runs. He took 152 wickets. He retired from international cricket in November 2020.
However, Samuels was charged with violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s anti-corruption code during the 2019 T10 League. After examining the arguments of Samuels, the ICC finally found him guilty. Banned for six years.
