Actor Dinesh Phadnis, popular for playing the role of Fredericks in one of television’s most popular show CID, died on Tuesday at the age of 57. His CID co-actor Dayanand Shetty, who played Daya on the show, confirmed the news of his death to indianexpress.com. He said, “Dinesh breathed his last at 12.08 am.” The actor was 57, and was receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital.
Shetty shared that Dinesh died of multiple organ failure. He said, “There were a lot of complications and he was removed from the ventilator last night.” The actor’s funeral will take place in Mumbai at 10.30 am. As per reports, the entire cast of CID visited Dinesh’s home to pay their last respect.
Actor Aditya Srivastava, who essayed the role of Inspector Abhijeet on the show, told PTI, “We know that he had liver issues and it had an impact on the other organs. He was really unwell for two-three days. He couldn’t survive.”
Earlier, it was reported that Dinesh suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday, following which he was admitted to the hospital. Later, Shetty confirmed it was not cardiac arrest but liver damage.
Dinesh became a household name after playing the role of Fredericks in the long-running TV show CID, which first aired in 1998 and ran for twenty years on Sony TV. He also made an appearance on the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and played supporting roles in movies like Super 30 and Sarfarosh.
The actor was quite active on social media and often shared pictures of himself with his granddaughter.
