Hyderabad: As the state government plans to accept applications for new ration cards from the end of December, new ration card beneficiaries have asked the government to consider the self-declaration form for income status while issuing new cards. Have requested and demanded exemption in income certificate.
Beneficiaries and social workers pointed out that in 2018, when the previous state government had sought new ration cards, many applicants faced challenges in obtaining income certificates and many were exploited by middlemen and brokers. It should also be noted here that some applications were rejected without submission and without field-level investigation, and no clear written reason was given for the rejection.
“It would be better if the government streamlines the application process to protect applicants from exploitation and harassment. Last time when the previous government released applications for new ration, my application was rejected despite submitting the income certificate,” said T Rahul, a beneficiary.
Another beneficiary said, “Last time I faced a lot of difficulties in getting the income certificate, it was also exploited by the agents and it was rejected without any field inspection.”
Expressing concern, social worker SQ Masood said, “I submitted all the documents, even income certificates, my applications were rejected. It would be better if the local authorities assess the eligibility based on the guidelines through area-level inquiries instead of demanding income certificates and also they should review the process, keeping in mind that “economically poor applicants “Frequently the contact numbers and addresses may change, and if the application is rejected, the concerned authorities should give the detailed reason for rejecting the application.”
