Reports indicate that “Salaar” garnered only around Rs 35 lakh net in its 5th weekend, marking the first substantial decrease in collections since its theatrical premiere in December.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” managed to outperform “Salaar” at the box office, earning an estimated Rs 80 lakh in its 5th weekend. Trade reports suggest that the Bollywood film may have surpassed “Salaar” in collections due to its delayed online release, prompting fans to head to theatres to watch the film, instead of watching it from the comfort of their homes.
After a run of approximately 31 days at the box office, “Salaar” accumulated an estimated total of Rs 152.30 crore for its Hindi dubbed version alone, with a cumulative total surpassing Rs 405 crore in all languages. On the other hand, “Dunki,” benefiting from an extra day at the ticket windows, collected an estimated Rs 226.50 crores.
In the global box office arena, the Prabhas starrer maintained its lead, amassing over Rs 610 crore, while Shah Rukh Khan’s drama earned approximately Rs 446 crores gross.
“Dunki” still has two weeks before it releases on OTT. According to reports, JioCinema has clinched the top bid and acquired the rights for the film’s digital debut. Rumours are rife that the makers have set the release for February 6, 2024. An official announcement on the same is still awaited.
