In a recent interview with Filmfare, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu opened up about the challenges faced by certain members of the ‘Dunki’ crew while obtaining visas for international shoots, emphasizing the widening wealth gap within the visa application process.
According to Taapsee, the visa and immigration regulations disproportionately affect individuals with lower incomes. She remarked that the rules of visas and immigration only affect poor and uneducated people, widening the divide between the rich and the poor in our society.
She went on to highlight the financial criteria imposed on visa applications. She added that the rich get their visas based on the money they have in their bank accounts, but those with lower incomes face numerous hindrances. Taapsee shared an example from the ‘Dunki’ unit, where some members encountered difficulties obtaining a UK visa due to their bank balance falling below the required threshold.
Despite being part of a prestigious project, these individuals faced challenges in realizing their professional opportunities. Taapsee expressed her concern about the impact of such regulations on those with limited means, emphasizing the hindrance it poses to growth and opportunity.
‘Dunki’ was a significant milestone for Taapsee Pannu, who described working with Shah Rukh Khan as a dream come true. In a previous interview with Pinkvilla, she expressed her disbelief at achieving such a milestone.
‘Dunki’ was released on December 21, 2023; the film has garnered immense success, grossing Rs 470.60 crore worldwide.
