Bhopal: At least 65 people fell ill after allegedly taking polluted water in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, officials said on Wednesday.
The local people alleged that two people in the village died after drinking polluted water.
However, officials denied the allegations that the two people, Brajraj Choudhury (80) and Asharam Visvas (75), died after drinking polluted water, saying that they succumbed to prolonged illness.
The incident took place in the village of Fuph, around 20 km from district headquarters of Bhind.
The local block medical officer (BMO) Dr Siddharth Chouhan said that a number of people were admitted to the community health centre in fuph over the last few days following complaints of vomiting.
Later, it was found that the polluted piped water supplied in the three wards in the village caused illness among the people.
Dr Chouhan said that he held discussions with the authorities of the local civic body on the matter. He however said that the two old men died of other illnesses, not because of drinking polluted water.
Bhind district collector visited the village on Wednesday to take stock of the situation. He said that the situation was now under control. He placed a civic body officer Niru Baghel who was in-charge of supplying piped water in the area under suspension.
