X-Trail SUV will be sold in India in limited numbers; to be available with a petrol engine only.
Nissan has revealed the fourth-gen X-Trail for India before its launch in the coming days. The Nissan X-Trail will be brought in as a CBU, and will be sold in limited numbers. With the introduction of the large SUV, Nissan India’s line-up will double, as it only has the Magnite compact SUV in its current portfolio.

Nissan X-Trail design, colours
While the fourth-gen X-Trail has been on sale overseas since 2021 in five- and seven-seat form, India will receive this model for the first time. For our market, the SUV, which is based on the CMF-C platform, comes in three-row guise. The X-Trail has an upright and square-out look and features a split-headlamp setup, a ‘V-Motion’ grille finished in dark chrome, rounded wheel arches with plastic cladding, diamond-cut alloy wheels and wraparound LED tail-lamps.
We had reported earlier on the colour options that Nissan will offer with the X-Trail in India, namely Diamond Black, Champagne Silver and Solid White. According to Alfonso Albaisa, SVP Nissan Design, these colours were chosen to better position the X-Trail as a premium offering.
The X-Trail measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, 1,725mm in height, and has a wheelbase that is 2,705mm long. The seven-seat SUV has a 5.5m turning radious, 210mm of ground clearance, and comes with 255/45 R20 tyres.
Nissan X-Trail interior higlights
From the teasers Nissan India had sent out, we had learned that the X-Trail will sport a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry and push-button start. Other features shown earlier include drive modes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function and cruise control.
Now, Nissan has confirmed that the SUV for India also gets a 360-degree camera and paddle shifters. The second row of seats has a 40/20/40 split-folding function, and sliding and reclining functions, while the third row gets 50/50 split-folding, and reclining fucntions as well.
Safety kit on the India-spec X-Trail includes seven airbags, auto wipers, ABS and EBD, traction control, a limited-slip diff, hill-start assist and front parking sensors.
Nissan X-Trail powertrain
As we had reported earlier, the X-Trail for India will be offered with just a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The brand confirmed that this unit, which features a variable compression ratio, comes with a 12V mild-hybrid system and produces 163hp and 300Nm of peak torque. The powertrain will be paired with a shift-by-wire CVT auto gearbox that is said to have negligible rubberband effect.
Nissan X-Trail expected price, rivals
Considering the SUV will be brought to the country through the CBU route, X-Trail prices are expected to be in the Rs 40 lakh-45 lakh region. This would put it in direct contention with the Toyota Fortuner (Rs 33.43 lakh-51.44 lakh*), its Legender derivative (Rs 43.66 lakh-47.64 lakh*), Skoda Kodiaq (Rs 39.99 lakh), MG Gloster (Rs 38.80 lakh-43.16 lakh) and Jeep’s Meridian (Rs 29.49 lakh-39.83 lakh).
For Nissan, the X-Trail is a stopgap measure to help maintain interest in the brand. Meanwhile, the Japanese company is readying a fresh product onslaught from 2025 onwards.
