The North Carolina Tar Heels football team earned a 38-20 win against the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday evening at Kenan Stadium.
In his first home start in Chapel Hill, starting quarterback Conner Harrell accounted for three touchdowns and 258 yards of offense to help the Tar Heels win their seventh straight home opener.
Running back Davion Gause had 16 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. UNC had three rushing touchdowns.
Despite losing quarterback Max Johnson to a season-ending injury in a 19-17 win at Minnesotathe Tar Heels (1-0) leaned on running back Omarion Hampton and a revamped defense to start the year with a road win against a Big Ten opponent.
The 49ers (0-1), who played their first season in 2013, started the season with a 30-7 loss to James Madison in Charlotte last week. Following its game against the 49ers, UNC faces NC Central and the Dukes in Chapel Hill before starting ACC play with a trip to Durham to face Duke in the battle for the Victory Bell.
