This new investment is a part of 1,20,000 crore investments that have been cleared by the state government last week in sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid technology and semiconductors.
Skoda-Auto Volkswagen India’s project is expected to provide more than 1,000 jobs, state deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on X on the upcoming projects in the state.
Apart from Skoda-Auto Volkswagen, Toyota Kirloskar Motor also received a green light to build a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
“The fresh investment of up to Rs 15,000 crore aims to further enhance the Group’s product portfolio in the best interests of the Indian customers while also focusing on more sustainable mobility solutions,” Skoda-Auto Volkswagen India said in a statement.
“This includes among other things BEVs and the further improved next generation of ICE vehicles, manufacturing facilities upgrades, and creating additional jobs – both direct/indirect – and thereby fostering sustainable growth in the region,” it said, adding that the company would “provide more details on the agreement” at a later date.
Toyota Kirloskar has also committed an investment of Rs 21,273 crore at the AURIC industrial city in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The company plans to manufacture hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell EVs, and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This move, Fadnavis said, would generate more than 8,800 new jobs in the region.
Also, Tower Semiconductor, in collaboration with the Adani Group, will establish a semiconductor manufacturing facility at Taloja MIDC in Panvel.
This project is valued at Rs 83,947 crore, Fadnavis said. The investment will be executed in two phases: Phase 1 with Rs 58,763 crore with a production capacity of 40,000 wafers per month, while phase 2 will see an outlay of Rs 25,184 crore for scaling up production to 80,000 wafers per month.
This will be used for analog/mixed signals and semiconductor manufacturing and is expected to generate over 5,000 jobs, strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
