In the new OTT series ‘Call Me Bae’, Ananya Blacksmith plays the character of a Delhi socialite in the coming-of-age story, who loses everything and has to find herself in Mumbai. A spoof of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding, featuring Ananya and Vihaan Samrathas become one of the most talked-about scenes in the series. However, both Ananya and I hate it were quite skeptical about recreating the scenes and were prepared for trolling.
In the wedding scene, Ananya’s character Bae marries Vihaan’s character Agastya Chowdhary. Bae is shown prancing during her bridal entry and pulling on an imaginary rope, just like Kiara did during her wedding in 2022. Like Sidharth, Agastya makes impatient gestures with his watch.
During a conversation with DNA India, Vihaan talked about the scene. He shared, “We were all so nervous recreating that scene. It is so adorable and iconic that it had to be done to the T. When I first saw it, I was in awe of how beautifully it had come out.”
He claimed that following the show’s release, the actors and creators were afraid of trolling because they thought people would think it was a joke on Sid-Kiara. “Even when the show was released, we were skeptical to face trolling for recreating that part. But the audience had many sweet things to say,” said Vihaan.
Praised for his performance in the show, Vihaan described the sequence as a kind of ode to his senior actors, Sidharth and Kiara. He added, “It is one of my favorite scenes from the show. It felt so dreamy throughout it was shot. I personally adore Sidharth and Kiara, so recreating their big day on screen was all the more special. Right now, I am just soaking up all the love I am getting for the show.”
‘Call Me Bae’ is directed by Collin D’Cunha. The show also stars Gurfateh Pirzada, Vir Das, Varun Sood, Muskkaan Jaferi, and Lisa Mishra in pivotal roles.
