While most know Brittany Mahomes as the high school sweetheart and wife of one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, she’s also a mom, Sports Illustrated model, and business owner who finds herself consistently batting away the critics as she navigates life in the spotlight.
Fans and followers alike have watched the soon-to-be mother of three take to multiple platforms, including her own Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts to share her very strong views on everything from politics and culture to motherhood.
Mahomes was most recently criticized for appearing to like several comments on her August 28, 2024 Instagram post that indicated support for Donald Trumpnot least of which was liking a comment that bluntly stated “TRUMP-VANCE 2024”, according to TMZ.
The next day, Mahomes commented on a few fan replies, posting,”I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood,” she wrote. “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed, and you hate to see others doing well.”
However, her political opinions have not been the only thing that have given fans and followers pause. Since 2018, Mahomes has been accused of having an extreme bias toward the Chiefs, blasting several referees publicly for big calls made against them.
For example, on October 2021, the fitness enthusiast received backlash from followers on X when stating that “refs are never in our favor”, sharing a moment when the Chiefs were on the wrong end of a controversial decision in a defeat to the Buffalo Bills.
Soon after, in January 2022, she was accused of rudeness prior to the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win over the Baltimore Ravens after a video surfaced online of her interaction with a member of staff at M&T Bank Stadium.
Brittany could be seen on camera asking the employee “where do we go from here?” before spinning her finger in a circular motion.
Although there was no clear indication that she offended the Ravens staffer, the clip did not go down well with some viewers on CBS‘s TikTok.
“Mahomes wife needs to get up off her high horse,” commented one user.
Another posted, “It’s the where do we go from here with the finger twirl for me.”
While one commented “She is too much…So extra.”
In another game against the Bills in January 2022, the Kansas City Current owner was slammed after she was filmed opening a bottle of champagne in the stands at Highmark Stadium and spraying it on unsuspecting fans sitting below her in freezing temperatures to celebrate their divisional-round victory.
She seemingly addressed the backlash when appearing on the August 28, 2024, episode of Will Ahmed’s “WHOOP” podcast, where she confessed she leaned heavily on her three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback husband to get her through the whirlwind of attention that social media has brought her.
“Having him to help me get through it has helped a lot, because he is very good at managing those things and blocking people out and doing all that type of stuff,” she said. “Having him beside me and kind of guiding me, coaching me through it has helped a ton. I think that’s kind of gotten to where we are now.”
The University of Texas at Tyler grad continued to share the best advice she received from her hubby — “Block out the haters.”
“I think the main thing he always told me is like, ‘Stop caring about what people think, especially the people that don’t even know you,'” she said.
Wrapping up her time on the podcast, she shared, “And so I think social media used to get me a lot, and now it’s just like honestly I don’t give a f— about what people have to say about me anymore, and I think he has helped me get to that point where I’m strong in who I am, I’m confident in who I am, and I’m confident in mine and his relationship — and I’m confident in our life. So, why does what other people say have to matter at all?”
