The Mercedes-AMG One has set a new fastest lap for production cars at the Nurburgring, beating the previous record by over five seconds. The hybrid supercar completed one lap around the Nordschleife in 6 mins and 29.090 seconds. The previous lap record of 6:35.183, set back in 2022, was also held by the AMG One.
- AMG One beats its own Nurburgring lap record by over five seconds
- Also sets record for the super-sports-car category
The hypercar was being driven by Mercedes DTM driver and brand ambassador Maro Engel, who also set the previous record at the 20.832km track. This makes the Mercedes‑AMG One the first road car to beat the 6:30 minutes mark around the track. The AMG-One’s record is now followed by Porsche 911 GT2 RS fitted with a Manthey Performance Kit, which lapped the Nordschleife in 6 mins and 43.300 seconds. The outright record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, however, still remains with the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo race car that lapped the circuit in just 5 minutes and 19.546 seconds.
Talking about the AMG One, the hypercar uses a modified version of the 1.6-litre, V6 turbocharged engine from its Formula 1 car, with four electric motors for a combined output of 1,063hp. Other motorsport technologies used include a carbon monocoque construction, carbon body, active aerodynamics and pushrod chassis. It features the fully variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with a hybrid-driven rear axle and electrically driven front axle with torque vectoring.
The car used to set the new lap record was fitted with the same Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres, which are specifically-developed for the AMG One and are a standard fitment. Mercedes says that the maximum camber values within the delivery tolerance were selected for the record drive. Furthermore, the “Race Plus” mode was activated for maximum possible aerodynamics, a tighter chassis tuning, vehicle lowering by 37 mm at the front axle and 30 mm at the rear axle and full power from all motors.
