Nizamabad:Tea buffs in Nizamabad are having their taste buds tickled, thanks to the introduction of newer varieties of tea in north Telangana districts.
Of these, ‘Pandharpuri chai’ is attracting people. It uses jaggery instead of sugar, the traditional ingredient of teas sold here, and is sold in specially designed cups.
Usually, people in north Telangana districts prefer Irani chai. The trend has, however, completely changed in recent times. Along with normal tea, people plumb for green tea, ginger tea, lime tea and black tea, inter alia.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, G. Prabhakar Reddy of Ashoka Residency Apartments said Pandharpuri chai had became a hot favourite for them. The tea with jaggery and elaichi flavour gives off an exotic aroma, he said. “We regularly drink Pandharpuri chai in glasses,” he said.
Customers, especially youths, gather around chai ghars to taste different kinds of tea. Tea hotels at Vinayaknagar, railway station road, bus stand, Kanteshwar, Malapally, bypass road, Varni road, NH-63, 44, Bodhan, Armoor, Kamareddy, Banswada towns witness huge rush of customers.
Srikanth, a Pandharpuri chai outlet owner at Kanteshwar bypass road, said people are attracted to Pandharpuri chai. To cater for the needs of all types of customers we provide different kinds of tea, he said, adding a
Pune-based company supplies them jaggery powder, specially designed cups for Pandharpuri chai. The company people trained us in jaggery chai, he said.
Based on flavours, its cup prices ranged from `10 to `20. People also carry the chai in plastic carry bags and paper cups to take home.
