Ruthuraj, who played for India in the post T20 World Cup tour of Zimbabwe, scored 133 runs at an average of 66.50 and a strike rate of 158.33, but did not get a chance.
Durban: Captain Suryakumar Yadav answered the question why Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaekwad is not considered for the T20 team despite scoring runs in domestic cricket. Last year, despite shining in all three formats at every opportunity, Ruturaj was criticized for not being considered for the T20, ODI and Test teams. It is in this situation that the journalists raised the same question to Suriya who came to the press conference ahead of the T20 series against South Africa.
But Suryakumar’s reply was that there are many talents in the country who deserve to make it to the national team. There are many players who deserve to make the national team. Team management has a plan to give each of them a chance. Each player is given a chance accordingly. We just have to respect it.
Rutu is an incredibly talented player. A player capable of performing equally well in all three formats. But there are many players who deserve to be in the team with good performances before Rutu. So, just like they get a chance, Ruturaj also gets a chance. That’s what team management thinks. It will run its course. Ruthuraj is young. It is performing well. So I think his number will come soon – said Suryakumar Yadav.
