In Chennai, a government oncologist was stabbed seven times by the son of a cancer patient under his care at the Kalaignar Centenary Hospital on Wednesday morning. The attack occurred in the outpatient department after the young man reportedly suspected the doctor of providing incorrect medication to his mother. The doctor, a heart patient with a pacemaker, sustained injuries to his upper chest, head, and stomach and is currently in stable condition in the ICU.
The assailant, who was a regular attendant for his mother at the hospital, attempted to flee after the attack but was apprehended by hospital security and handed over to the police. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian stated there was no security lapse, as the attacker concealed a small knife on his person.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned the incident, ordered an investigation, and pledged to strengthen safety measures to protect healthcare workers.
