Rahul shrugged off injury concerns as he returned to batting during the team’s training session on Sunday at the WACA in Perth.
KL Rahul on Sunday returned to the nets after coping with a blow on the first day of India’s intra-squad match simulation. The right-hand batter training ahead of the opening Test is a massive relief for injury-stricken India, getting ready for the 5-match Border-Gavaskar series.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Rahul shrugged off injury concerns as he returned to batting during the team’s training session on Sunday at the WACA in Perth.
During India’s intra-squad match simulation on Friday, KL Rahul left the field early after being struck on the elbow by a sharp rising delivery from Prasidh Krishna. The impact caused visible discomfort, prompting him to leave the ground to seek medical attention. Rahul did not return to bat later that day, even as India’s primary batters took another turn at the crease.
The report further stated that Rahul had an intense training session on Sunday morning, lasting nearly three hours. After two days of match simulations, where India’s main XI faced off against a team of fringe or India A players, some squad members continued their practice on the WACA centre wicket and nets.
Rahul’s fitness update comes just a day after Gill’s unavailability for Perth is nearly confirmed. The latter got hurt while fielding on the second day of the intra-squad match simulation and was seen in considerable pain and immediately left the field for further scans which revealed a fracture.
“His thumb is not looking good. We got a scan done and it showed a fracture. It will take him at least two weeks to recover. He is ruled out for the first Test match. As there is a big gap between the first and second Test, we are hoping he will recover in time for the second Test,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
A thumb fracture generally takes around 14 days to heal after which one is expected to start his regular net sessions. Since the second Test in Adelaide starts on December 6, there remains a possibility that he will get fit in time for that match.
