The 2024 disaster movie Twisters keeps audiences on the edge of their seats with its intense tornado-chasing action sequences and the competitive dynamics between Twisters’ main charactersincluding Glen Powell’s confident storm-chasing influencer, Tyler. Twisters cleverly opened with a shocking scene of Kate losing many of her friends while chasing a major tornado as a way to set up her character’s past. Introducing Kate through this scene explains why she became afraid of storm chasing and why the prospect of saving lives helped prompt her to get back out. Similarly, Twisters 2 could use a flashback scene for Tyler to explore a major event in the character’s past that is related to tornadoes.
In Twistersthe audience learns that Tyler was formerly a rodeo cowboy and initially became interested in storms after being caught in a tornado with his aunt. He shares that he then became a meteorologist before becoming a storm-chasing YouTuber. His short explanation serves to create a bond between him and Kate as they get to know each other and gives the audience some idea of who Tyler really is. However, Twisters 2 could choose to expand this story and make Tyler more the focal point, since Twisters chose to do that for Kate.

Twisters 2 Could Connect Tyler To The 1996 Twister Movie
Beyond tapping into the success of Twisters to bring fans another story about Kate and Tyler, Twisters 2 could also confirm a Tyler fan theory that would firmly connect characters in the sequel to characters in the 1996 Twister. Twister similarly followed storm chasers, ex’s Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill Harding (Bill Paxton), in their quest to conduct new tornado research, and many Twisters fans have suggested that the aunt that Tyler referred to could be a character from the original movie.

More specifically, it has been suggested that Jo Harding herself could be Tyler’s aunt. Given her passion for storm hunting, it would certainly make sense that Tyler learned that skill and passion from her. Alternatively, others have suggested that Tyler’s aunt could have been Bill’s fiancée, Melissawho was much more apprehensive about storm chasing. This connection may make less space for the original characters to come back, since Melissa was not involved in the storm-chasing world. However, in either case, Twisters 2 could certainly use a Tyler flashback scene to connect Twisters with the characters of the original.
A follow-up to the 1996 original film Twister, Twisters is a sequel set years after the original, said to be fast-tracked by Steven Spielberg and Mark L. Smith, with Frank Marshal as producer. Little details exist about the film, but Helen Hunt is expected to reprise her role as Jo, with the film likely to pay homage to the late Bill Paxton.
