The philanthropic work of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has always made headlines. In 2023, their Archewell Foundationwith the mission to “show up, do good” across the United States and around the world, raised $5.3 million in grants. According to Marie Claire’s report, it was a huge leap from the $2 million raised in 2022. One of the noteworthy things is that the royal couple receives income from the foundation.
While many congratulated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for creating a new milestone, some dug deep claiming the foundation left $4 million unaccounted for in its 2022 tax return. Instead of running away from confrontation, the foundation addressed the allegations. According to People Magazin, clarification on the discrepancy has been given and it has been explained that – “all funds were properly accounted for, and that sum is reflected in the current tax filing for the 2023 fiscal year.”
The foundation continues to do its work. In the third year with high sprites, Archewell has distributed $1.3 million in grants to charitable organizations focused on causes important to Harry and Meghan. The grant served several causes like female empowerment, online safety, and mental health initiatives. Further, though every program of the foundation is noteworthy, The Welcome Project stands out from the lot. It provides community-building support for Afghan women who have resettled in the United States.
Shedding light on the project Meghan shared “that perfect example of seeing an immediate need and then saying, ‘Okay, how do you make this a much larger vision so it’s not just a short-term banding on a problem, but a long-term solution?’”
