Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat has become a popular landmark in Mumbai, with fans flocking to the residence, especially on his birthday and during Eid. The actor is known for greeting his admirers by standing with his arms raised and waving to them, a gesture that has become a signature part of his interactions with fans. Now, the ‘Pathaan’ actor is reportedly planning to add two more floors to his iconic Mumbai residence. The luxurious home currently includes two basements, a ground floor, and six additional levels.

According to Hindustan Times, Shah Rukh’s wife, Gauri Khanhas submitted a request to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to expand the mansion by two extra floors, increasing the area by 616.02 square metres. The estimated cost for this expansion is Rs 25 crore. A committee led by Pravin Darade, the principal secretary for the environment, is expected to make a decision on the application on Wednesday (December 11). The request was filed on November 9. Mannat, originally called Villa Vienna, has a rich history. Built in 1914 by Nariman K. Dubash, the house caught Shah Rukh’s attention while filming for ‘Yes Boss’ at Bandstand. The actor developed a deep connection with the property and purchased it in 2001. Due to its Grade Three heritage status, he was initially restricted in the changes he could make to the building. However, he later constructed the six-storey Mannat Annexe behind it.
Reflecting on the purchase, Shah Rukh once shared at an event for Gauri’s coffee table book that when they first considered buying the property, they didn’t have enough money. After managing to save enough, they bought the property, even though it was well beyond their budget. The house was in poor condition, which required extensive rebuilding. With limited funds, they couldn’t afford to furnish it, so they called in a designer. Shah Rukh humorously recalled that the designer’s lunch, during which he discussed plans for the house, cost more than the ‘Jawan’ actor’s monthly salary at the time.
Actor Mukesh Khanna also shared an interesting anecdote about how Shah Rukh managed to buy his first house. According to Khanna, Shah Rukh requested an advance payment from producer Prem Lalwani to fund the purchase. The house was worth Rs 34-35 lakh at the time, and the money from the film ‘Guddu’ helped Shah Rukh buy it. He has often expressed gratitude for this opportunity.
