Elon MuskCEO of xAIhas once again taken to X, this time emphasising the importance of “truth” in evaluating artificial intelligence (AI) models. He has been vocal about Al chatbot returning factually incorrect answers.
“The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth is critical to the evaluation of any AI model,” Musk said.
The phrase “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,” is often used in legal contexts.
Musk’s statement comes at a time when concerns about AI’s potential for bias, misinformation and even manipulation are growing. As AI models become increasingly sophisticated, their ability to generate convincing and sometimes false or misleading information has become a pressing issue.
Google AI under fire for ‘wrong’ answers
Earlier this year, Google’s AI assistant faced criticism for its failure to respond to questions about the Holocaust. A video circulating on social media showed a Google Nest speaker, powered by Google Assistant, failing to answer questions about the number of Jews killed by the Nazis during World War II.
The video has sparked outrage and accusations of bias against Google, with some users claiming the company is deliberately suppressing information about the Holocaust.
Musk weighed in on the controversy, reposting the video and emphasizing the importance of developing AI models that prioritise truth and accuracy. He has previously stated that AI chatbots are “trained to lie to be politically correct,” highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability in AI development.
“AI would be very dangerous if powerful, but trained to lie to be politically correct,” he said, adding, “Why it is so important for @xAl’s @Grok to succeed. This is a much bigger deal than it may seem.”
