When asked on India Today about what KL Rahul is doing right but not others, Gavaskar explained that he remains “still” and that his head position helps him judge the line of the ball.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has now explained the reason behind IND batter KL Rahul’s success so far, compared to his other Indian compatriots with the bat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
KL Rahul has proven to be one of India’s stable and reliable batting option in the Border-Gavaskar series so far, having notched over 200 runs.
Whilst the remainder of the Indian top order collapsed in no time, Rahul has withstood the AUS pace attack, and picked his moments to make steady advances.
When asked on India Today about what KL Rahul is doing right but not others, Gavaskar explained that he remains “still” and that his head position helps him judge the line of the ball.
“He is very still at crease. There is a little trigger movement, but his head is upright, and that’s the reason why he is able to judge where the off-stump is, and leave those deliveries. And that is so essential. When the ball is hard and new, and bowlers are on top, you need to give them the respect for the first half-an-hour or 45 minutes, because the next 5 hours are yours,” said Gavaskar.
A disciplined Rahul had his stroke of luck early in the day, as Steve Smith dropped an absolute sitter, providing Rahul with a second life in this innings.
Rahul continued to showcase his fine form, as the Indian batter stood his ground comfortably, slashing and driving his way to a fabulous fifty with strokes galore, leading India’s hopes of avoiding the follow-on.
