Kia India unveiled a new compact SUV, the Syros (codenamed AY), in India on December 19, aiming to offer a more premium experience than the Sonet while maintaining a similar sub-4-meter size. It is expected to be launched early next year during the Bharat Mobility Expo, with deliveries expected to commence from February 2025. Kia India will commence the bookings for Syros from January 3 2024.
Features
The new Kia Syros offers both petrol and diesel engine options, paired with various transmission choices. The engine options include a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel. The petrol engine delivers 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. The diesel engine produces 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard. Six-speed torque converter automatic and seven-speed DCT transmissions are optional.
The Syros’s boxy design aims to maximise interior space, a key selling point for the compact SUV segment. The vehicle’s rugged appearance, enhanced by black cladding, caters to the growing demand for SUVs with a more adventurous aesthetic. The inclusion of larger alloy wheels on higher variants further contributes to the premium look.
Design
Its front features a clamshell bonnet, a sleek 2D Kia logo, vertically stacked LED headlights, and Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). Black cladding around the wheel arches and bumpers contributes to a rugged SUV appearance. Alloy wheels are anticipated to reach 17 inches on higher variants.
Other notable exterior design elements include a sharp kink in the rear quarter glass at the B-pillar, flush-fitting door handles, and L-shaped, high-mounted tail-lights.
Kia promises rear seat space exceeding both the Sonet and the larger Seltos. Top-tier Syros models are expected to feature a 10.25-inch infotainment display and a fully digital instrument cluster. Teasers reveal a new two-spoke steering wheel with controls for infotainment and driving modes (Mud, Snow/Wet, and Sand).
