Directed by Vetri Maran, the film Vythamiya 2 starring actors Vijay Sethupathi, Suri, Manju Warrier and others has released today.
The first part of Vimithya released in March 2023 and received positive reviews among the fans. In this case, its second part has been released today.
Ilayaraja has composed the music and Velraj has done the cinematography for the two parts of the film.
What do the reviews published in various media say about the film Vyuthamiya 2?
The plot of the film
In the first part of Liberation, a revolution breaks out and a people’s army is formed against the foreign companies who want to mine and exploit the resources in the mountainous area. The story revolves around the character Perumal Vathiyar (Vijay Sethupathi) who leads it.
The government sends a special police force to the area against the revolutionary people’s army. Suri has played the character of Kumaresan as its jeep driver.
“Times of India” has mentioned that as in the first part, the character of Kumaresan (Suri) has been given more importance, the second part has given importance to the back story of Perumal Vathiyar.
“Who is Perumal Vathiyar? How did he build this Tamil People’s Army? What are his basic philosophical principles? Who created him? What is the reason for his taking up the armed struggle?” is the screenplay of the second part,” says the Hindu Tamil Direction Review.
In the first part, the revolutionary “Perumal Vathiyar” (Vijay Sethupathi) is arrested. Subsequently, in the second part, the police officers including Kumaresan (Suri) bring him to another place from the hill. Path Neduka Perumal Vathiyar narrates his life journey.
A Times of India review states that “the plot is set in the direction of how his backstory affects Kumaresan”.
In its review, “India Today” has mentioned that Vetrimaran’s Vimithutta 2 has a strong storyline.
India Today praised the film as “In a nutshell, this film is a manual for communism” and that the film ‘simplifies the communist message it wants to convey and makes it easy for today’s common people to understand’.
“Political Lesson for the Young Generation”
“In the first part, director Vethimaran, who had uncompromisingly recorded the life of hill villagers and police violations, in the second part, he has recorded the personal lives of the field strugglers and the pains of the families,” says the Hindu Tamil Vektri review.
Claiming to have documented the activists’ struggle for survival in the digital age through “disappearances, arrests, tears, brutal deaths”, the film Vitihood 2 also described Vetimaaran as “a political lesson for the young generation”.
And India Today says that Vethimaran will ask the right questions and make people think, “Who is right and what is right?”
“Perumal Vathiyar’s backstory caused a setback”
Dinamani criticized that “Director Vetri Maran faced some criticism in the first part for his style of violent scenes. The second half is similarly designed.”
“There is no emotion in the violent scenes in the second part. Bombs are exploded, women are tortured without clothes, farm slavery is cruelly shown. We are not given emotions in anything. These remain as imposed scenes,” said Dinamani review.
The Hindu Tamil review also commented that the violent scenes in the film contained too much blood. India Today in its review said, “The film falters when describing Perumal’s flashbacks”.
India Today also criticized that “Viduktu 2 may not be a fan-favorite story for all sections”.
“Fake Love Scenes”
Saying that Ken Karunas’ scenes at the beginning of the film are moving briskly, India Today says that the main strength of the film is the deep dialogues written by director Vethimaran.
Talking about the characters of the film, Hindu Tamil said, “This film speaks to the necessity and beginning of red and black politics. Vijay Sethupathi, Suri, Manju Warrier, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajeev Menon, Prince, Subramanya Siva, Prince, Chetan, Director Tamil, Pavel, Balaji Sakthivel’s contribution has added strength to the film. Appreciated.
Noting that actor Vijay Sethupathi is carrying the film with a wonderful performance, India Today has written that Suri will add strength to the film in the second part as Kumaresan.
Hindu Tamil Review praised Vetrimaran’s performance in the love scenes in the film.
It also notes that “Vijay Sethupathi-Manju Wariyar’s exchange of unadulterated love between dirty and blood-soaked activists is outstanding”.
While Manju Warriar’s hairstyle received mixed reviews from fans during the trailer of the film, “Veetimaaran has given a great interpretation of it in the film. No wonder the hair cutting culture is on the rise.”
Cinematography issues
The Times of India says that Vimithu 2 has given the right conclusion to the characters and the story.
“It is a commendable effort. “Despite the issue of some persistent overlap of dialogues, the story is strengthened by the dialogue-oriented plot, showcasing several progressive ideologies and concepts,” said India Today.
Praised for Ilayaraja’s background music, Hindu Tamil said, “Ilayayaraja is intimidating in the background music. Vijay Sethupathi’s music penetrates our ears with smoothness on guitar in Manju Warrier’s romantic scenes and tension on trombone in Vijay Sethupathi’s violent scenes.”
Pointing out the film’s shortcomings, the Hindu Tamil Review criticized that “a lot of dialogues could not be fully heard as the dialogues overlap between the end of one verse and the next.”
Although the film’s songs are pleasant to listen to, it has also been criticized for feeling like an unnecessarily fitted interlude.
“The story of liberation unfolding from Suri’s point of view has become Vijay Sethupathi’s story in the second part as there are many contradictions in the scenes, Dinamani review has mentioned.
“Suri doesn’t have many scenes. Manju Warrier’s arrival, Perumal Vijay Sethupathi’s transformation into Vathiyar is not a big pressure. It has also criticized that the story is being told as murder for murder.
