Hyderabad: Murders, kidnappings, rapes and dowry deaths registered an upward trend in the Rachakonda commissionerate in 2024, according to police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said murders registered a 11 per cent rise in 2024, a trend also seen in crimes such as rape, including those relating to fake promises of marriage. The number of cases of kidnap, including minors going missing, rose by 10 per cent. There was an 11 per cent increase in dowry death cases.
The Rachakonda police arrested 521 NDPS and drug offenders and seized Rs.88.25 crore worth of drugs and mounted effective surveillance over 159 drug traffickers.
Sudhir Babu said the Rachakonda police had a 76 per cent resolution rate of cases and a 64 per cent conviction rate, both of which are highest in the state, for major crimes for the sixth consecutive year. The commissionerate had a caseload of 33,084.
He said the year was marked by an emphasis on visible policing, quick response and integration of technology (VQT).
Effective surveillance, he said, had resulted in a 10 per cent reduction in property crime cases. Due to initiatives of the SHE teams, Bharosa centres, and increased patrolling, crime against women had reduced by nine per cent over the previous year.
The Rachakonda cybercrime unit secured the return of Rs.22 crore to victims of cyber fraud. Participation in National Lok Adalats facilitated the resolution of 11,440 compoundable cases and 70,719 e-petty cases.
In a commissionerate covering 5,122 sq km with five national highways and a 61-km stretch of the ORR, the number of accident cases fell 12.3 per cent and fatalities by 12.21 per cent.
Sudhir Babu said the Blue Colts and patrol cars had handled 2,41,742 Dial 100 calls with an average response time of 8.37 minutes, fastest in the state.
Emphasising on women’s safety, the commissioner said two more Bharosa centres will be set up. Surveillance and decoy operations by SHE Teams are also round the clock. Not only acting just over the complaints, but any footage we come across where women are bullied or harassed, cases are being registered and looked into.
