After a lukewarm start at the box office, Varun Dhawan’s Baby John continued its downward trend, recording a disappointing Rs 3.65 crore on its first Friday.
According to reports from Sacnilk.com, the film opened with an estimated Rs 11.25 crore but faced a sharp 57.8% dip on its second day, earning just Rs 4.75 crore. On Friday, the numbers fell further, bringing the film’s total box office collection to Rs 19.65 crore, narrowly missing the Rs 20 crore milestone.
Trade analysts now predict a challenging road ahead for the Hindi action film, which was made on a reported budget of Rs 160 crore. With current projections suggesting a lifetime collection of just Rs 50 crore, Baby John faces an uphill battle to recover its costs.
The film has also been up against stiff competition at the box office. While Pushpa 2 saw its first significant dip, earning Rs 8 crore on Friday, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King maintained steady momentum with Rs 6.6 crore.
Hopes are now pinned on the weekend box office to see if Baby John can turn the tide and boost its numbers.
Directed by Kalees, Baby John is the Hindi remake of the 2016 Tamil blockbuster Theri, originally directed by Atlee and starring Vijay in the lead role. Varun Dhawan takes on dual roles in the film, portraying police inspector Satya Verma and his vigilante alter ego, John. The cast also features Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.
Despite its promising premise, the film’s initial performance has been underwhelming. Industry watchers will be closely monitoring the weekend collections to determine if Baby John can recover from its slow start.
