Snoop Doggwho once publicly vowed to roast anyone who supports Donald J. Trump, performed at Cryptoball on Friday, a party arranged by Cryptocurrency executives for Trump to celebrate his forthcoming inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The images and videos of the trio – Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy, and Rick Rossperforming at the party surfaced on the internet, leading to mass criticisms by the fans. The crypto community, which has been promised major changes in the policies by the President-elect during his administration, celebrated Trump at 90-year-old Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.
The involvement of artists created a negative buzz on the internet, especially when their behaviour is a stark contrast to what they believed in a few years ago. In 2016, Snoop Dogg publically supported Hillary Clinton for Presidency, while roasting every black artist, labelling them ‘jigaboos’, and ‘Uncle Toms’. In 2017, Dogg even mocked Trump in his music video ‘Lavender’, where he shoots the Trump impersonator. However, the love-hate relationship apparently took a turn when Dogg dismissed the rift between the two saying, “I have nothing but love for Donald Trump. Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris,” said in The Sunday Times.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful asf,” one reaction read. “Not a check in the world worth selling my soul to the Devil…” another commenter remarked, on the video of their performance posted by The Shade Room. Former CNN anchor, Don Lemon covered their performance and questioned whether Snoop Dog and other black artists are “sellouts [or] grifters who only care about a dollar?”
