Emergency box office collection day 4: After showing signs of improvement, Kangana Ranaut’s historical biographical drama Emergency has suffered a significant setback at the box office, failing the crucial first Monday test. Now, with several major releases lined up in the coming days, including Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s Sky Forcethe chances of Emergency witnessing a resurgence appear grim.
Directed, co-produced and headlined by Kangana herself, the movie recorded an India nett collection of just Rs 1.04 crore on Monday, marking a steep 75.53 per cent decline from its Sunday earnings of Rs 4.25 crore, as per early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total domestic nett earnings to Rs 11.39 crore.
On Monday, the film recorded a dismal overall occupancy rate of just 7.11 per cent in the Hindi market. The day began with a weak 4.37 per cent occupancy during morning shows, with only a nominal increase throughout the day — afternoon shows saw a 6.81 per cent occupancy, while evening and night screenings recorded 8.32 per cent and 8.93 per cent, respectively.
Although Emergency’s first Monday collection is better than that of Kangana’s recent box office bombs such as Thalaivii (Rs 73 lakh), Dhaakad (Rs 30 lakh) and Tejas (Rs 45 lakh), it is considerably lower than some of her lesser disappointments like Judgementall Hai Kya (Rs 2.3 crore), Panga (Rs 1.65 crore) and Chandramukhi 2 (Rs 5.35 crore). Given the film’s reported budget of approximately Rs 60 crore and its deplorable earnings of just over Rs 11 crore within four days of release, Emergency seems poised to meet the same fate as Kangana’s recent releases — falling short of even reaching its break-even point.

Interestingly, Emergency’s daily collections so far have also been consistently trailing behind those of the Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigraa film Kangana had taken a veiled attack on when it underperformed during its release in October 2024. “When you destroy woman-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again,” she had posted on her Instagram stories while Jigra was struggling at the box office. While Jigra opened with Rs 4.55 crore on its first Friday, Emergency debuted at just Rs 2.5 crore. Over its first weekend and Monday, Jigra collected Rs 6.55 crore, Rs 5.5 crore and Rs 1.65 crore, respectively, whereas Emergency could only mint Rs 3.6 crore, Rs 4.25 crore and Rs 1.04 crore on the corresponding days.
Even when Jigra’s figures weren’t promising, actor-filmmaker Divya Khossla also took a swipe at Alia Bhattalleging that the star had inflated box office numbers by purchasing tickets herself. She shared a screenshot of an allegedly empty cinema hall screening the film, suggesting that Jigra’s collections were being manipulated by the makers despite limited audience interest. The same Divya, however, had expressed her support for Kangana during Emergency’s controversy last year, stating, “I think it takes a lot of hard work to make a film. It’s not an easy job. Kangana has acted and directed the film. So, hats off to her,” news agency YEARS quoted her as saying.
