The Ghost has been a significant model for Rolls-Royce since its 2009 introduction. It targeted a new generation of luxury consumers seeking a more accessible and versatile Rolls-Royce experience. These clients desired a vehicle they could personalize and drive themselves. The 2020 second-generation Ghost built on this foundation with simplified design and advanced technology. It emphasized providing a canvas for Bespoke customization and a dynamic driving experience.
Clients embraced the Bespoke options, investing an average of 10% of the purchase price on customization. The 2020 Ghost also featured the Planar Suspension System, designed for a smooth ride, and a powerful V12 engine. For the Ghost Series II, Rolls-Royce sought customer feedback, focusing on their desire for personalization and dynamic performance. The Series II features subtle design refinements and retains the powerful V12 engine.
Exterior design
The exterior of the Ghost Series II features a refined front end with an illuminated Pantheon grille. Updated headlight and daytime running light graphics enhance its modern look. The width of the vehicle is emphasized by design elements flowing to the edges of the front wings.
New chrome embellishments create a “floating” visual platform for the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. The rear of the car features a redesigned tail lamp configuration inspired by the Spectre model. Two vertical light panels are flanked by a chrome element with the double ‘R’ monogram.
Two new 22-inch wheel designs are available: one fully polished and one part-polished. These options complement the car’s contemporary design.
Interior design
The interior of the Ghost Series II showcases both traditional and digital craftsmanship. The Central Information Display, housed within a pillar-to-pillar glass panel, features the SPIRIT operating system.
This system allows further Bespoke customization by enabling clients to match the digital instrument dial colors to the interior or exterior. SPIRIT also integrates the Whispers app, enabling remote vehicle functions.
Rolls-Royce emphasizes the Ghost cabin’s sound quality. The 18-speaker audio system has been upgraded with a 1400-watt amplifier. The car’s aluminum sill sections act as resonance chambers for low-frequency speakers.
The Bespoke Audio system includes two “speakerless” exciters bonded to the Headliner, creating an overhead sound stage. When paired with a Starlight Headliner, acoustic membranes on the fiber optic cables enhance sound quality. Active microphones monitor and adjust audio balance.
Features
The Ghost Series II includes upgraded entertainment and connectivity features. Rear passengers can connect two streaming devices to the rear screens with independent control. A new interface manages entertainment and seat functions like massage, heating, and cooling. Bluetooth headphone pairing, an upgraded Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB-C charging ports are also included.
The Ghost Series II introduces new craft features. The Spirit of Ecstasy Clock Cabinet houses an analog clock and an illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy figurine on a mirrored stage. The Illuminated Fascia, spanning the passenger side, features a design inspired by the night sky. Clients can collaborate with designers to create custom Illuminated Fascia motifs.
The Ghost Series II features a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, an eight-speed gearbox, all-wheel steering, and all-wheel drive. Maximum torque is available at low RPM for smooth acceleration.
The Planar Suspension System includes an Upper Wishbone Damper unit for enhanced ride stability. The five-link rear axle also uses self-leveling air suspension.
The Flagbearer System uses cameras to adjust the suspension to road conditions. Satellite Aided Transmission uses GPS data for optimal gear selection in corners. These technologies combine for a smooth and dynamic driving experience.
The Black Badge Ghost Series II is a more powerful and agile version of the Ghost. It features a redesigned lower grille with darkened chrome strips and black-finished door handles. The 22-inch part-polished wheels highlight the car’s performance capabilities.
