Sanam Teri Kasam re-release box office collection Day 3: In 2016, director duo of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru made a rather poignant romantic drama titled, Sanam Teri Kasam. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in the lead roles, Sanam Teri Kasam opened to Rs 1.3 crore on Day 1 of its release. At the end of Week 1, the film made an impressive Rs 8.71 crore in the domestic market, and the music of the film to was received warmly during that time. Over the next few weeks, it stuttered to a lifetime collection of just around Rs 9 crore. It was declared a flop in 2016.
But on February 7, nine years after its initial release, the film was re-released to a surprising Rs 5.14 crore, which was more than half of its first week collection. Even before the makers could celebrate the record-breaking re-release run, Day 2… actually Day 3292, ended up collecting Rs 6.22 crore, surpassing the lifetime collections of Sanam Teri Kasam in its initial 2016 run. According to trade website Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 6.25 crores on Sunday too, taking the total collection since its re-release to around Rs 18 crores. This has taken the total collection of the film to the Rs 25 crore mark.
What truly has astounded the market forces is that Sanam Teri Kasam is outperforming other February 7 releases, including the much-publicised Junaid Khan-Khushi Kapoor film, Loveyapa, and the Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravikumar. While Sanam Teri Kasam made over Rs 6 crores on Sunday, Loveyapa and Badass Ravikumar made Rs 1.65 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, respectively. But again, this is also seen as an outlier because not all re-releases created such a rampage at the box-office.
Incidentally, in September 2024, Soham Rockstar Entertainment, the makers of Sanam Teri Kasam, officially launched the sequel of the film. Sharing a photo of producer Deepak Mukut with Harshvardhan, the post was captioned, “Sanam Teri Kasam 2 is officially happening! After the epic love story of the first film, we’re back with more! Stay tuned for updates!” And the comments were flooded with love for the film, and many actually asked for a re-release in 2025.
In fact, Harshvardhan too shared the film poster on January 23 with the caption, “To re release Sanam Teri Kasam part 1, we should tag Deepak Mukut Sir, …and request him to re release it on 7th Feb 2025 (Valentine week) Express your reasons in comments and tag him, I will also go to his office tomorrow morning and show him this! ”

Well, of course, this might seem like an orchestrated PR activity, but nevertheless, the second coming of Sanam Teri Kasam has set the right platform for the sequel to fly really high, and might continue this trend of re-releases that has been the flavor du jour of recent Indian cinema.
