Last October, Lucasfilm revealed the first in a wide-ranging set of art prints by Japanese artist TAKUMI that will act as the badge art for its upcoming Star Wars convention, Celebration Japan, taking place in April 2025. But now the full set has been revealed, with stars from across the prequels, sequels, and even shows like Andor and The Acolyteand they all look incredible.
Lucasfilm debuted the remaining nine pieces of art that will make up the 17 different badges available to attendees heading to the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan this spring on the official Star Wars website last night. All illustrated in the style of traditional Japanese woodblock prints from the 17th-19th century Edo period known as ukiyo-e, the art this year synthesizes the galaxy far, far away’s long-established cultural connection to Japan with almost every contemporary era of Star Wars media.
The character selection is particularly intriguing–aside from expected familiar faces from the original trilogy like Darth Vader, Threepio and Artoo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, and Padmé and Asajj Ventress make up representing Phantom menace and the Clone Wars eras of the prequels. And of course, with the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith on the way this year, that film gets a two-for-one hit with a print depicting Anakin and Obi-Wan’s duel on Mustafar in stunning style.
The sequel trilogy gets just one badge, another twofer with Kylo Ren and Rey back-to-back in their duel from The Last Jedi–bolstered on the TV side of things for the post-Return of the Jedi era with Din Djarin and Grogu, Ahsoka, and Sabine. Ahead of Andor‘s sophomore season debuting just after the convention, both Cassian and Mon Mothma also get pieces. And then the High Republic, preparing to bow out on the novel front at least, gets a trio of fantastic prints: Young Jedi Adventures‘ Kai and Nubs are a shoe-in for the kids’ badges, but interestingly The Acolyte will get two art prints as well: one depicting Osha bleeding a lightsaber, and the other Sol and the Stranger locked in battle.
It’s nice to see here, at least, that The Acolyte will have some presence at the convention, especially as Lucasfilm has largely stayed silent about the series since its abrupt cancellation. It might just be badge art (that we definitely want emblazoned on as many things as possible–posters, shirts, magnets, you name it, put them on it!), sure, but even that’s a step up from the studio leaving the show’s cast and crew to the wolves.
Star Wars Celebration Japan runs from April 18 through to April 20, 2025–while we don’t know which art will adorn which badge yet, select tickets are still available.
