Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor made his acting debut as a child artist in the late 1940s, and then in the early 1960s, he became a full-fledged Bollywood hero. His work in films like ‘Anjaam,’ ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi,’ ‘Salaakhen,’ ‘Fakira,’ and more has helped him write his name in the golden pages of Indian cinema. However, the National Award-winning actor was not only known for his movie but also for his bond with his utterly beautiful wife Jennifer Kendal.
Though he didn’t talk much about her, there’s one old interview where he made an exception. The video of the very interview has been circulating over the internet for quite some time now.
The video shows Shashi talking about his age and his grey hair. When complimented on his dark hair, Shashi confessed, “Nahi mere bahut se baal kaale kiye gae hain sirf ye hissa chor diya gaya hai,(no a lot of my hair have been died, except for this part).” Saying this he touched his sideburns.
He continued, “Main bahut hi buzurg, bahut hi booda aadmi hu. Main 46 ka ho chuka hu (I am a very elderly, old man. I have turned 46).”
Then while speaking about his wife, he said it feels he’s been married to Jennifer Kendal for 100 years. To this, the interview said the couple must be connected from their previous lives. Smiling to the remak, Shashi said, “Mujhe lag raha hai agle janam ka bhi kuch hone wala hai inse. Uss din maine Jennifer se bhi kaha tha, ‘Lagta hai agle janam mein bhi aap hi aaengi’. Kya karein? (I feel we will be connected in the next life as well. The other day I told this to Jennifer as well that it seems like you and I will be together in our next life as well).”
Shashi and Jennifer tied the knot in 1958 and had three children–sons Karan and Kunal, and daughter Sanjana. The veteran actor passed away on December 4, 2017, after a prolonged illness, while his wife Jennifer left the mortal world before him in 1984.
